The first day of 2011 started off lovely. We had pancakes - I had brought whole wheat mix with me and she seemed ok with it as long as it was drenched in syrup. Then we were off to Nagarkot - a 2 hour drive to see the tips of the Himalaya with our adoption coordinator, Bishnu, leading the way. The drive up we did lots of pointing out buses, cars, trucks and motorcycles and tried to work a bit on naming with their colors - she's absorbing it all!
There were a lot of people when we got up there and the weather was lovely. Not so lovely as to see Everest, but clear enough to see the mountains and we got some good pictures. We stopped for tea and relaxed a bit then made our way back to Kathmandu. For lunch I ordered her vegetable fried rice to try and get some veggies into her and she managed to stealthily eat the rice while avoiding the bits of veggies! She ate some and I decided that was a success. It seems like if she can see it's a vegetable, she's less likely to eat it. Time to learn to make sauces!!
We got back to the apartment about 2pm and I just wasn't feeling great. I turned on the TV for cartoons (in English) and spent most of the afternoon just lying there. My sweet daughter I think had a sense I wasn't feeling well because she played so very nicely and quietly with her crayons and markers - having me hold them but not requiring more of me. I ended up vomiting and getting sick and she came into the bathroom and patted my hair - she was so sweet. In the end I had to call Bishnu to come and help, I was just feeling too bad to get her situated, so he came over at about 6:00pm and stayed with her for a couple hours, heating up leftovers while I took a quick nap and felt well enough to take back over about 7:30. I'm so glad he was able to come - I wasn't sure what to do since I don't think she would have been comfortable with any of the other families yet. After a quick change into pajamas, some good night lullabies (we skipped the book), she was out by 8 and so was I.
Day 2 of 2011 is already looking better as I woke up early feeling fine! Phew - that was more than I could handle and I hope it's my only sick day!
